Privacy Policy - My RPG Companion

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data My RPG Companion (the "App") handles and how. The short version: the App runs 100% locally, there is no account, and nothing you create is sent anywhere unless you explicitly ask it to.

1. Data stored locally on your device

The App saves everything you create — character sheets, campaigns, encounters, and your app preferences — as local files on your own computer, in the standard application-data folder for your operating system. This data:

  • Is never transmitted to the developer.
  • Is never uploaded to any server operated by the developer, because none exists.
  • Stays on your machine until you delete it yourself (or uninstall the App and remove its data folder).

2. Data sent to third parties, and when

The App does not collect analytics, telemetry, or crash reports. The only situations where data leaves your device are the ones below, and all of them require an explicit action from you — none of them run automatically or in the background.

AI features (optional, bring your own key)

If you configure your own API key for Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI in Settings, and then click a button to generate a session summary, a story suggestion, or a sentiment analysis, the App sends the relevant text (for example, a session transcript or campaign notes you wrote) directly from your computer to that provider's official API, using your own key. The developer never sees, receives, or stores this data — it goes straight from your machine to the AI provider you chose. Review that provider's own privacy policy for how they handle it.

Discord Rich Presence (optional, automatic while the App is open)

If the Discord desktop app is running on the same machine, the App connects to it over a local connection (not the internet) and sets a fixed status — "Playing My RPG Companion" — visible on your Discord profile to your friends. No personal data, character information, or campaign content is sent to Discord; only that fixed status text. If Discord desktop isn't running, the App simply skips this step.

Rules dataset updates (optional, manual)

If you click "check for updates" for the D&D 5th Edition SRD dataset in Settings, the App makes a request to a public GitHub repository to check for and download newer rules data. This is a standard, anonymous web request (like visiting a public webpage) — no personal or app data is included in it.

3. Children's privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information at all — see Section 1 and 2 above.

4. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in the App. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

5. Contact

Questions about this Privacy Policy can be sent through the contact information listed on the developer's website where this page is published.
