These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of My RPG Companion (the "App"), a free desktop application for Dungeon Masters and players running tabletop Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition games. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
1. What the App is
My RPG Companion is a free, independently developed desktop tool. It helps you manage character sheets, campaigns, and battle encounters for D&D 5th Edition. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Discord Inc., or any AI provider mentioned below.
2. License to use
You are granted a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download and use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or claim authorship of the App.
3. Your data stays on your device
The App stores everything you create (characters, campaigns, encounters, preferences) locally on your own computer. There is no user account, no cloud sync, and no backend server operated by the developer that stores your data. Backing up your own data is your responsibility — if you uninstall the App or lose access to your device without a backup, that data cannot be recovered by the developer, because the developer never had it.
4. Optional third-party features
The App integrates with a small number of optional, third-party services, described in full in the Privacy Policy:
- AI features (session summaries, story suggestions) require your own API key for a provider of your choice (Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI) and are only triggered when you explicitly click a button.
- Discord Rich Presence shows a fixed status on your Discord profile while the App is open, if the Discord desktop app is running on the same machine.
- Rules content (monsters, spells, classes, races) is sourced from the D&D 5th Edition System Reference Document and, optionally, from the Open5e project — see the in-app "About" screen for full attribution.
Your use of those third-party services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies, which the developer does not control.
5. No warranty
The App is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Use it at your own risk.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to data loss.
7. Changes to these Terms
These Terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
